A Party for A Princess

One of my girlfriends has a daughter who was born just three days before Em, so their parties are always the same weekend. Today's was Lily's 3rd birthday party and oh my, was it ever a party fit for princesses.

Em had another princess party earlier this and she dressed as Snow White; today's party called for a new costume and she happily chose Cinderella.

So imagine her shock and suprise when the real Cinderella showed up. Em couldn't take her eyes off of this living breathing princess. In fact, when Cinderella asked the tiny guests to tell her their names, Emerson told her that her name was Cinderella Church.

The tiny princesses played games, made balloon flowers, danced, and got their faces painted.

Happy birthday Miss Lily! You sure know how to throw a party :)

Party Prep

On and off for this entire month, I've been working on crafts to make my baby girl's third birthday a special one. So far I've got done:

the birthday banner

her hairbow

refurbished Starbucks frap bottles into party glasses

sewed mermaid tails for party favors

and made a door sign

I'd say it's been a successful month of crafting.

Good for the Soul

Chilly Sundays call for homemade chicken noodle soup, made with whole-wheat noodles, homemade vegetable broth, and fresh veggies.

Delicious and filling and good for the soul.

Great Gramma's Birthday

There was some discussion as to whether it was her 89th or her 90th birthday, but regardless it was a great one.

Happy Birthday, Great Gramma ♥

A Finished Living Room

It brings me great pleasure to say our living room is officially "finished".

We finally replaced our tiny, outdated television and the new one fills in the space between the bookcases perfectly.

A little before and after:

Much better.

Storytime at the Library

One of the perks of Clay's job, and of which there are many, is that he will occasionally get asked to host a library story time.  This story time was especially special, because it was our hometown library.

A little backstory: way way a long time ago, before computers and Harry Potter, there were land-line phones and another Harry who battled a terrible two-headed whatzit. And little boy Clay loved the story of Harry and the Terrible Whatzit so much, that he would often call his hometown library's hotline to hear a recorded version told over the land-line phone (who even knew such a thing as recorded stories told over a phone even existed??).

Now fast forward a hundred years and guess what story Clay was asked to read at today? Yup, Harry and his Whatzit.  So this story time was even more especially special :)

Now I don't know if you've ever had the honor of listening to Clay tell a story, but it's great. He's animated and pauses in all the right spots and creates the best voices for the characters, and he's just an overall great storyteller. The kids listened with rapt attention and afterward they got to create their own terrible whatzit.
